Snapshot of a larger order
De Ketelfactory is bursting at the seems! From the 16th of April through to the 17th of July 2016, the Schiedam-based exhibition space will be setting up home at the Nolet Loodsen for a major art manifestation: Snapshot of a larger order. De Ketelfactory has invited twenty previous exhibitors to create new work for Snapshot of a larger order.
The art manifestation has been preceded by a fase in which the focus lay primarily on the relationship between images and words. Winnie Teschmacher, director of De Ketelfactory, refers to her exhibition space as a stage where, rather than a battle between image and word, an exchange takes place between the two, as with each exhibition there is a tangible movement from the internal to the external and back. With this approach, she has in recent years assigned Peter Henk Steenhuis to enter into conversation with the artists who will be taking part in the manifestation Snapshot of a larger order. These conversations, which are each based specifically around one of the artist’s works, have been published as a regular column, Door het Beeld, in Trouw. The essays were eventually bundled into the book door het beeld I door het woord.
The second part of this book contains conversations between Steenhuis and philosopher René Gude, who further explores the concepts introduced by the artists.
Movement, encounter and depth are central to De Ketelfactory. Art and philosophy collide in the exhibitions. Thereby the constant focus is around increasing depth: the depth of the artist, the artwork, and the art experience. During Snapshot of a lager order, visual arts and philosophy reach out to one another once more. De Ketelfactory invites the artists to further their search, through potential inspiration by the writers of door het beeld I door het woord. Increase of depth is brought about by several factors: through the creation of a sanctuary for the artist, through forging a connection between art and other disciplines and, finally, through entering into conversation about art, with the artists as well as with the audience. Connections are formed between the mutual worlds of the artists, as well as between the artists, philosophers, scientists and writers.
Artists taking part in the art manifestation are:
Marjolijn van den Assem, Hans van Bentem, Maria Blaisse,
Florette Dijkstra, Wineke Gartz, Harry Haarsma,

Location
The Nolet Loodsen, situated in an area where Schiedam’s 18th century town centre captivatingly merges with the harbour town’s industrial character, is a former wood storage space with a 10.000 square meter floor surface. Here, the work of the twenty artists interacts and clashes, dialogue is entered into and confrontation is sought out. In addition to the immense indoor space, part of the work is displayed in the area outside the warehouses, and even in parts of the town of Schiedam.
