Working from silence

In her lecture, visual artist and designer Maria Blaisse speaks about the role of silence in her work. Lucette ter Borg writes about her: “Maria Blaisse is an artist whose work treads the line between design, architecture and autonomous art. She gained fame as the designer who created hats from car tires. A simple incision in the material opens up an ocean of possibilities. From here she further developed her design language in bamboo. Bamboo is mainly used as an alternative to wood in construction. But it is precisely the flexibility of the material that has a stirring beauty, according to Blaisse. She applies that flexibility in her architectural designs, in dance performances and in autonomous art”.
